Cognizant Secures Massive Legal Victory: Bombay High Court Crushes Atyati's Injunction Demand in Logo Dispute

NASDAQ-listed IT services giant Cognizant has achieved a significant legal victory following the Bombay High Court’s dismissal of an interim injunction application filed by Bengaluru-based Atyati Technologies. This ruling decisively addresses a long-running trademark dispute concerning Cognizant's use of its company logo, firmly reaffirming the services company's operational standing.

Landmark Ruling in Trademark Dispute

The order represents a crucial development in the protracted legal battle over Cognizant’s branding. The Bombay High Court dismissed Atyati's interim injunction request, granting a major win to Cognizant at this intermediate stage of the litigation.

Cognizant has consistently denied all allegations from Atyati regarding trademark infringement. The company maintains that its use of the disputed mark is fully compliant with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

How the Litigation Reached This Stage

The dispute involves multiple complex stages of judicial review. Initially, a Single Judge at the Bombay High Court had refused to continue an interim injunction sought by Atyati against Cognizant. Subsequently, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep V. Marne set aside that initial order in August 2025.

Following the Division Bench ruling, which restrained Cognizant from using the logo, the company had taken immediate steps. Cognizant removed the contested logo from its profiles on platforms like LinkedIn, X, Facebook, and YouTube while continuing to display only its wordmark.

Supreme Court Intervention Directs High Court Action

Cognizant then escalated the matter by filing a Special Leave Petition against the Division Bench’s order before the apex court. After reviewing both parties' submissions, the Supreme Court took two key actions. The SC set aside the Division Bench's ruling and restored the initial Single Judge's decision to refuse the injunction.

The Supreme Court subsequently directed the Bombay High Court to resolve Atyati's interim injunction application within a six-month period. The current dismissal order aligns directly with this directive from the highest court.

Corporate Response Highlights Compliance Commitment

In response to Moneycontrol’s queries, a spokesperson for Cognizant issued a statement regarding the favorable judgment. The company welcomed the Bombay High Court’s decision, affirming their position that their actions were lawful and entirely appropriate under existing legal mandates.

Cognizant reiterated its unwavering commitment to adhering to all laws, regulations, and judicial orders across every jurisdiction in which it operates globally.
