BHEL Clarifies Historical Milestones of Ultra High Voltage Transformer Development​

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) addressed circulating news regarding its development of 1200 kV Ultra High Voltage AC (UHVAC) Auto Transformers, providing clarity on various past testing and commissioning achievements.

The company noted that successful testing of a 333 MVA 1150/400/33 kV single phase auto Transformer took place in May 2011. This transformer subsequently was commissioned at POWERGRID's National Test Station in Bina, Madhya Pradesh, in January 2012.

BHEL stated that the media reports referencing other developments pertain to past milestones. These include the 180 MVA/1200 kV Inhouse Testing Transformer, developed in 2011, and the indigenous development of a 500 MVA/765 kV Transformer, which occurred in 2014. BHEL emphasized that these reported news items relate to developments that have been established for over a decade.

The company further clarified its market position, noting that it has been a regular supplier of 765 kV Transformers and Reactors since 2014. Furthermore, BHEL noted that the organization has been prepared to address requirements for 1200 kV Transformers and Reactors since 2011.
