Bharti Airtel Extends Critical Mobile Connectivity for Indian Army in Arunachal Pradesh​

Bharti Airtel has completed the first phase of a strategic initiative, enhancing mobile connectivity across remote regions of Arunachal Pradesh in partnership with the 4 Corps of Indian Army. The achievement establishes Airtel as the pioneer service provider offering reliable mobile communication in these difficult-to-reach mountainous and high altitude areas.

The telecommunications giant rolled out network infrastructure across 30 Army stations situated in challenging mountainous terrain, significantly improving voice and data connectivity for both military and civil personnel residing in remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh. This deployment ensures that personnel can remain seamlessly connected with their families despite the geographical and infrastructural constraints of the region.

This milestone was achieved through close collaboration between Bharti Airtel and the Indian Army. The Army provided extensive logistical backing to the project, assisting with fiber deployment and power infrastructure. In several areas lacking road access, the Indian Army assisted in providing necessary logistics support to enable Airtel technical teams to move telecommunication equipment deep into the mountains.

The successful completion of Phase 1 has set the stage for future expansion. The Indian Army and Airtel have agreed upon a follow up phase, during which network sites will be built across an additional 15 locations in Arunachal Pradesh.

Balaji R, CEO North East and Assam at Bharti Airtel, highlighted the initiative as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in some of the country's most difficult terrains. He noted that the rollout required intense coordination between local support units and Airtel teams to overcome immense terrain and adverse weather challenges.

"Our teams operated under demanding high altitude conditions and adverse weather to ensure timely and secure network activation," said Balaji R. "We are deeply grateful to the Indian Army for their unparalleled logistical support, which made it possible to bring digital connectivity to these frontier regions."
