Bharat Coking Coal Limited Halts Blasting Operations at Akashkinaree Colliery Following Land Subsidence

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) has suspended controlled deep-hole blasting operations at its New Akashkinaree Colliery (NAKC) in Govindpur Area. The decision comes after the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) withdrew permission for such activities, directing that blasting cannot be resumed without fresh, express written consent from DGMS.

The mining operations have been halted as part of a broader directive compliance effort. BCCL must adhere to instructions issued by the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority in Dhanbad. This mandate required the stoppage of both blasting and general mining activities until the affected area is declared safe following a comprehensive scientific study and evaluation.

The necessity for the operational pause relates to a land subsidence incident that occurred near the New Akashkinaree Colliery at Chhatabad. The subsidence was specifically identified as affecting the abandoned IX Seam old underground workings of NAKC, although the affected land remains owned by BCCL.

In response to the regulatory directives and the environmental impact, Bharat Coking Coal Limited is undertaking all necessary steps. The company is currently focused on conducting the required technical study and is in the process of seeking renewed permission from concerned authorities at the earliest opportunity.
