Bank of Baroda (BOB) shares experienced significant selling pressure on Friday, falling nearly 4 percent in morning trade. This drop occurred amid investor reactions to the lender's recent $600 million settlement concerning the long-running NMC Health litigation. The stock traded around ₹250 at the time of trading, marking a decrease of 3.9 percent and positioning it among the top decliners on the Nifty 500.

The decline in Bank of Baroda has been persistent throughout the year. Its stock has declined by 16.7 percent so far this year, which is notably sharper compared to the 7 percent fall registered by the Nifty 50 over the same period.

PSU Banking Sector Faces Headwinds Despite Broader Market Gains​

The weakness seen in Bank of Baroda has negatively impacted the entire Public Sector Unit (PSU) banking pack. The Nifty PSU Bank index subsequently emerged as the worst-performing sectoral index, even though the broader market continued to post gains.

While the wider financial markets saw positive movements, the specialized segment faced distinct challenges. The Nifty Bank index remained relatively stable, registering little change, and the Nifty Private Bank index managed a slight rise of about 0.6 percent.

Broader Market Performance Details Released Mid-Day​

As of around 9:59 am, the Indian stock markets were recording solid gains. The Sensex climbed by 485.01 points, achieving a gain of 0.63 percent and reaching 77,987.13. Concurrently, the Nifty index increased by 163.65 points, translating to a 0.68 percent rise at 24,339.35.

Market breadth indicators remained positive across the board. A total of 2,016 shares were shown advancing, while 1,256 shares recorded declines, and 172 shares were noted as unchanged in trading activity.
