Aurobindo Pharma Inaugurates TheraNym: Pioneering India's Large-Scale Biologics Contract Manufacturing Facility

Aurobindo Pharma Limited has marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of TheraNym, one of India's largest dedicated biologics contract manufacturing organizations (CMO). The facility represents Aurobindo Pharma’s strategic foray into the growing global segment of biologics contract manufacturing.

The inauguration ceremony was held in Hyderabad and witnessed by Ministers Shri D. Sridhar Babu and Shri Damodar Raja Narasimha from the Government of Telangana. These officials jointly inaugurated the TheraNym Biologics facility, underscoring the commitment to positioning Telangana as a center of excellence for pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.

TheraNym is equipped with 15 KL bioreactors, advanced downstream processing suites, aseptic fill-finish capabilities, and quality control laboratories. Strategically located in Borapatla, the facility is situated approximately 45 minutes from Hyderabad’s Financial District. The operations are designed to meet international regulatory expectations and support both domestic and export markets for MSD's supply chain, pending applicable approvals and customer requirements.

Dr. Satakarni Makkapati, CEO Biologics and Director at Aurobindo Pharma Limited, stated that TheraNym is a defining moment in large-scale biologics manufacturing in India and a proud achievement for the company. He noted that welcoming MSD as the anchor customer affirmed confidence in their capabilities. "As the global biologics market continues its remarkable expansion," Dr. Makkapati said, "TheraNym stands ready to help bring biologic therapies to patients worldwide, reliably and more affordably than before."

Dr. Dave Maraldo, Executive Vice President and President of MSD Manufacturing Division, highlighted the importance of the partnership. He commented that this innovative collaboration strengthens global access to critical biologic medicines, noting that TheraNym adds meaningful capacity and capability to the MSD supply chain.

Mr. Nithyananda Reddy, Vice Chairman and MD of Aurobindo Pharma, extended gratitude to the Government of Telangana for its support and collaboration, stating that the state's investment facilitation and policy initiatives have built a conducive ecosystem for companies like Aurobindo Pharma. Building on their aspirations in biosimilars with CuraTeQ, the company is prioritizing this high-growth segment through the strategic addition of TheraNym Biologics for contract manufacturing.

The facility’s establishment aligns with the broader focus on strengthening global access to biologic medicines and supports the industry's push toward increasing domestic biomanufacturing capacity in India.
