Ather Energy Stock Surges 9% as Hero MotoCorp Approves Massive ₹1,000 Crore Investment

Strategic Boost: Why Hero MotoCorp's Investment is Crucial for Ather Energy

Ather Energy shares experienced a significant upward move, rising 9% on July 15. This rally followed the announcement that two-wheeler giant Hero MotoCorp has sanctioned an investment of up to ₹1,000 crore in the homegrown EV maker.

Hero MotoCorp, which holds a considerable stake in Ather Energy and is based in Bengaluru, confirmed the massive financial backing. The proposed transaction involves Hero investing through either a preferential allotment of shares or convertible securities.

This strategic capital infusion comes at a critical juncture for Ather. While Ather has been an early entrant into India's competitive EV two-wheeler market, it faces intense competition from industry behemoths like TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto.

Understanding the Investment Structure and Timeline

The investment represents a major commitment to empowering one of India's key EV innovators. The transaction is targeted for completion within 15 days of receiving final approval.

Hero MotoCorp specified that its post-transaction stake in Ather Energy will be dependent on the pricing and structure defined during the proposed securities issue. This suggests a detailed evaluation process tied to the company’s valuation metrics.

As of June 30, Hero held a 29.48% stake in Ather Energy. The market reacted positively to the news, pushing Ather Energy shares up to ₹1,309.7 per share as of 10:38 am on July 15.

Market Position and Company Operations

The partnership between Hero MotoCorp and Ather Energy underscores their existing association. As stated in a stock exchange filing by Hero MotoCorp, Ather is engaged in the design, manufacturing, selling, and servicing of electric two-wheelers.

Furthermore, Ather operates its own charging infrastructure. The company is also actively involved in storage, distribution, and management of electric power, including energy captured in the form of batteries, along with ancillary services.

For context on Ather's operational scale, Hero MotoCorp provided figures detailing that Ather's turnover for the year ended March 31, 2026, was ₹3,671.76 crore.
