Jet Fuel Prices Reduced After Three Months of Increases
Prices of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), commonly known as jet fuel, were reduced by 7.3 percent on Thursday, offering relief to airlines after three consecutive monthly hikes. The cut was implemented as part of the routine monthly price revision aligned with global fuel benchmarks. In Delhi, ATF prices were lowered by Rs 7,353.75 per kilolitre to Rs 92,323.02 per kilolitre. The reduction follows a series of increases, including a 5.4 percent hike on December 1, a near 1 percent rise in November, and a 3.3 percent increase in October.
The latest revision effectively offsets more than two thirds of the cumulative price increase since October 1.
Relief for Airlines as Fuel Costs Ease
Fuel accounts for nearly 40 percent of operating costs for airlines, and the price cut is expected to ease cost pressures across the sector. Airlines did not immediately comment on the impact of the reduction.ATF prices were also revised downward in other major cities. In Mumbai, jet fuel now costs Rs 86,352.19 per kilolitre, while prices in Chennai and Kolkata stand at Rs 95,770 and Rs 95,378.02 per kilolitre, respectively. Variations across cities are driven by differences in local taxation.
Commercial LPG Prices Jump to Multi Month High
Alongside the ATF revision, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder used by hotels and restaurants was raised sharply by Rs 111. In Delhi, the revised price now stands at Rs 1,691.50 per cylinder. This increase follows two consecutive monthly reductions. Commercial LPG prices were cut by Rs 15.50 on December 1 and by Rs 5 in the prior revision. With the latest hike, commercial LPG rates have reached their highest level since June last year.
Domestic LPG Prices Remain Unchanged
Prices of domestic LPG cylinders used for household cooking were left unchanged. The 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder continues to be priced at Rs 853, following a Rs 50 increase implemented in April 2025.Monthly Pricing Linked to Global Benchmarks
State owned oil marketing companies including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum revise ATF and LPG prices on the first day of every month based on international price trends and currency movements. While global oil prices have moderated over the past month, higher winter heating demand has pushed up LPG prices in international markets.
Petrol and Diesel Prices Stay Frozen
Retail prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged following a Rs 2 per litre reduction implemented in March last year. In Delhi, petrol continues to cost Rs 94.72 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 87.62 per litre.Disclaimer: Due care and diligence have been taken in compiling and presenting news and market-related content.
