Antara Care Homes Integrates Robotic-Assisted Exoskeleton for Rehabilitation in Bengaluru

Antara Care Homes, the transition care and assisted living arm of Antara Senior Care, has launched the ExoAtlet II robotic-assisted exoskeleton at its Bannerghatta centre in Bengaluru. This technological addition places the facility among a select group of Indian transition care centres providing robotic-assisted recovery for patients recovering from stroke, paralysis, neurological disorders, and orthopaedic conditions.

The ExoAtlet II is a wearable robotic suit designed to fit around a patient's hips and legs. The technology enables patients to perform hundreds of consistent, physiologically accurate steps during each session, providing a level of repetition that is difficult to achieve through manual therapy alone. This device now works in tandem with conventional therapies and a specialized robotic device for hand and finger retraining.

Enhanced Specialist-Led Rehabilitation

The integration of robotic technology strengthens a specialist-led rehabilitation programme designed for individuals experiencing functional loss after prolonged illness or surgery. According to Ishaan Khanna, CEO of Antara Assisted Care Services, the initiative addresses the rising burden of neurological disorders and degenerative conditions in India. With a projected increase in the senior citizen population to 347 million by 2050, timely and structured rehabilitation is becoming essential for improving limb function and quality of life.

Lt Col (Dr) Faisal Husain, Medical Superintendent of Antara Assisted Care Services, stated that successful motor function recovery relies on personalization and consistency. Patients undergo a comprehensive clinical assessment to develop a tailored rehabilitation programme directed by a rehabilitation-medicine specialist. In cases where robotic-assisted gait training is required, the exoskeleton settings are calibrated to individual needs and adjusted as the patient progresses.

Comprehensive Care Infrastructure

Antara Care Homes operates facilities across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The Bengaluru rehabilitation programme distinguishes itself by having each patient journey led by a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) doctor. This multidisciplinary approach includes:

Service ComponentDescription
Specialist OversightLed by PM&R doctors to restore function and mobility
Multidisciplinary TeamIncludes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and swallow therapy, and psychologist-led cognitive care
Clinical SupportRound-the-clock clinical and nursing support
Therapeutic FocusNeuromuscular reeducation, strength and balance training, gait re-education, and fine-motor retraining

The facility at Bannerghatta is equipped to handle the full spectrum of recovery, utilizing both a device for fine hand and finger movement retraining and the newly introduced ExoAtlet II for lower-limb and gait recovery.
