Amitabh Kant Calls for Multilingual AI to Unlock True Potential at ‘Smarter Than the Storm’ Launch

AI Must Be Multilingual to Deliver Real Impact, Says Amitabh Kant

Former Amitabh Kant, ex-CEO of NITI Aayog, said on Tuesday that the full potential of artificial intelligence will only be realised when it becomes multilingual and capable of understanding and communicating across local and international languages.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the launch of his book Smarter Than the Storm, Kant underlined that linguistic diversity is central to making AI truly inclusive and impactful. He stressed that India’s ambition is to lead from the front in emerging technologies as the global digital landscape evolves.

Focus on AI, Governance and Future-Ready Economies

A central theme of Smarter Than the Storm is the transformative role of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in shaping resilient economies and modern governance systems.

Kant emphasised that AI must be aligned with renewable and modular energy systems such as solar, wind, and other clean energy sources. He highlighted the need for optimisation through improved software guidance to ensure that AI systems operate efficiently and sustainably.

He pointed out that compatibility with renewable energy and enhanced efficiency are now essential considerations as AI adoption accelerates globally.

IndiaAI Mission Driving Democratized Access

Co-author Siddharth Sinha said the Government of India, through the IndiaAI Mission, is working to democratise access to computing power and datasets. The initiative aims to make AI development more accessible and inclusive across sectors.

He noted that the recently concluded India AI Impact Summit has helped position India prominently on the global AI map. According to Sinha, transformative innovation, particularly in social sectors, is expected to emerge from grassroots-level initiatives supported by accessible AI infrastructure.

AI Applications and Energy Considerations

Sinha said AI can be deployed across a wide spectrum of applications, from predicting floods and wildfires to improving data centre efficiency and tracking natural disasters. However, he cautioned that AI systems also carry a significant energy footprint, making sustainability a critical part of future AI strategies.

A Blueprint for Leadership in an Uncertain World

Smarter Than the Storm presents a forward-looking framework for decision-makers navigating an unpredictable global order. The book integrates perspectives on climate action, AI-led innovation, governance reform, and economic strategy.

Positioned as a guide for business leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, the publication outlines how emerging technologies and policy reforms can help build resilient and future-ready systems in a rapidly changing world.
