Allied Blenders and Distillers Limited (ABD), a major spirits company and India's largest exporter by volume, has announced a significant strategic expansion by establishing local production in Malaysia for its Officer's Choice Blue. This initiative marks the company's first overseas local production arrangement, supporting its broader global ambition to deepen its presence in international markets through asset-light growth models.

The expansion into Malaysia is part of ABD's continued global growth strategy. ABD currently exports to 39 international markets, and its worldwide reach spans key markets across Europe, North America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the GCC. The spirits segment in Malaysia is anticipated to experience growth in the mid-teens in the coming years.

Under the new co-bottling arrangement, ABD will partner with an established local entity to produce and distribute Officer's Choice Blue in Malaysia. The product line will be available in three distinct variants: 750ml, 180ml, and 90ml, designed to cater to diverse consumer occasions and price points.

The company intends to evaluate the phased introduction of additional brands under this framework as market response and route-to-market readiness develop. Furthermore, ABD plans to continue assessing similar asset-light local production partnerships in other select international markets, guided by strategic fit and market opportunities.

Amar Sinha, Managing Director of ABD, commented on the development, stating that the company's international business is built on a disciplined, asset-light model that balances market expansion with capital efficiency. He added that local manufacturing in Malaysia is an important milestone in this journey, noting that Officer's Choice Blue presents a compelling proposition for consumers.

ABD operates across five spirits categories: whisky, brandy, rum, vodka, and gin. The company's flagship brand, Officer's Choice, is among the largest-selling whiskies globally. ABD maintains a robust manufacturing footprint that includes 40 units, encompassing 9 owned bottling facilities, 2 owned distilleries, 1 owned PET bottle plant, and 28 non-owned manufacturing units.
