Over 220 Passengers Return Safely After Technical Diversion​

New Delhi, March 19: Air India successfully operated a special flight to bring back passengers and crew who were stranded in Shannon, Ireland, after a technical issue forced a diversion earlier this week. The flight landed in Delhi early Thursday morning.

According to an official, the special flight carried more than 220 passengers. As a gesture of goodwill, each passenger was offered ₹20,000 by the airline.

Flight AI102 Diverted to Ireland Due to Technical Issue​

The incident began on Monday when Air India’s A350 aircraft, operating flight AI102 from New York to Delhi, was diverted to Shannon following a suspected technical issue.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft made a precautionary landing at Shannon Airport at 0430 local time. All passengers and crew remained safe.

Aircraft Grounded, Passengers Stranded in Shannon​

Following the diversion, the aircraft was grounded in Shannon, leaving passengers and crew stranded in the Irish town for several days.

To address the situation, Air India arranged a special relief flight using a Boeing 787 aircraft.

Special Boeing 787 Flight Operated via Zurich​

The rescue operation involved a Boeing 787 aircraft that first flew from Zurich to Shannon before departing for Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.

The official confirmed that the special flight completed its journey and landed in the national capital on Thursday morning, bringing all stranded passengers and crew back safely.
