Urgent Call for Structured AI Integration at AI Impact Summit 2026
New Delhi, February 16: Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran has emphasized that artificial intelligence adoption cannot be left to organic market forces and must be guided by a deliberate national strategy focused on mass employability.Speaking virtually at the AI Impact Summit 2026, Nageswaran underlined that countries need to act decisively to integrate AI into their economies while safeguarding growth and social stability.
Strengthening Education and Skills Critical for AI Transition
According to Nageswaran, the pathway to effective AI adoption requires strengthening foundational education, developing high quality skills, expanding labor intensive service sectors, and removing regulatory bottlenecks. He stressed that millions of jobs are created annually in India, yet a significant skills gap persists. Only a small proportion of the workforce has received formal skills training. He described this gap as more than a statistical concern, calling it a structural vulnerability that demands urgent policy attention.
“Team India” Approach Needed for AI-Driven Growth
Nageswaran highlighted that adopting AI must be a collaborative “Team India” effort involving the private sector, academic institutions, and policymakers. He said coordinated action across stakeholders is essential to ensure that technology adoption translates into broad based economic benefits.“The window of opportunity is still open, but it is not indefinite. We must act, and we must act now,” he said, underscoring the urgency of the moment.
AI and the Future of India’s Growth
For India, Nageswaran said, the issue extends beyond the future of work. It is about the future of growth and social stability. He asserted that with foresight, institutional discipline, and relentless execution, India can position itself as the first large society to demonstrate true human prosperity. He concluded that this transformation will require political will, strong state capacity, and a clear commitment to adopting technology in a manner that prioritizes mass employability rather than leaving outcomes to chance.
