Adani Enterprises' Kutch Copper Achieves LME Brand Registration for Grade-A Cathodes
Kutch Copper Limited (KCL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), has secured London Metal Exchange (LME) certification for its 'Adani Copper' brand. The achievement positions Adani Copper as a globally competitive producer of refined copper, enabling the cathodes to be delivered against LME Copper futures contracts from July 10, 2026.
The approval from the world center for the trading of industrial metals validates KCL's manufacturing excellence and responsible sourcing practices against stringent global benchmarks. This certification grants Adani Copper the status of a Good Delivery brand for 'Copper Grade A' contracts, placing it alongside leading global copper brands and conferring significant international market credibility on the Group’s entry into the metals sector.
KCL operates one of the world's largest single-location custom copper smelters in Mundra, with an annual production capacity of 0.5 million tonnes. The USD 1.2 billion facility is designed with state-of-the-art technology and sustainability-led principles embedded throughout its operations. This infrastructure not only strengthens domestic supply but also advances India’s self-reliance ambitions by reducing reliance on imported copper, a metal vital to the energy transition and electrification.
An LME brand certification involves rigorous quality assurances covering chemical composition, shape, and weight, alongside strict responsible sourcing protocols. The listing enhances financing flexibility for eligible Adani Copper cathodes, as LME-listed metals are recognized as high-liquidity assets that can be used as collateral. For the LME, the addition of Adani Copper expands its deliverable base with a high-quality cathode from a major new production hub.
Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO - Natural Resources at Adani Enterprises and Managing Director of Kutch Copper Limited, emphasized the significance of the milestone for the global energy transition. He stated that achieving LME brand status places Adani among the world's foremost copper producers and reinforces India's role in building a resilient supply chain.
