Auto Market Sees Strong Rebound Amid Segment-Specific Growth

The domestic automotive market exhibited robust growth last month, driven by significant increases across all key vehicle segments. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), industry dispatches jumped, signaling a strong revival in consumer purchasing sentiment.

Data reported on Tuesday confirmed that sales of vehicles to dealers registered healthy year-on-year gains in March. The sectoral performance highlights particular momentum in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler categories.

Passenger Vehicle Dispatches Jump 16%

The passenger vehicle segment was a primary contributor to the overall boost. Domestic dispatches from companies to dealers saw a notable rise of 16 per cent compared to the previous year.

In March this year, total passenger vehicle dispatches reached 4,42,460 units. This figure is a substantial increase from the 3,81,358 units recorded for the equivalent period in the prior year.

Two-Wheelers Lead the Growth Momentum

The two-wheeler market demonstrated exceptional vigor, leading the growth across the board. Sales registered a commanding increase of 19.3 per cent year-on-year.

Last month, two-wheeler sales hit 19,76,128 units. This strong performance contrasts sharply with the 16,56,939 units dispatched during March of the previous year.

Three-Wheeler Dispatches Record Highest Gains

The three-wheeler segment posted the highest percentage growth among the tracked categories. Dispatches of three-wheelers to dealers climbed by 21.4 per cent last month.

The absolute number of three-wheelers dispatched stood at 76,273 units. This marks a significant leap from the 62,813 units recorded during the March period one year ago.

Market Momentum Signals Recovery

The collective data confirms a widespread upward trend across the Indian automobile ecosystem. The proportional growth observed in passenger, two-wheeler, and three-wheeler segments suggests a return to healthier demand cycles.

The robust performance across all these crucial mobility segments indicates strong manufacturer-dealer activity. SIAM’s data paints a picture of a dynamic rebound in consumer buying patterns across the value chain.
