TNSL Launches Final Diving Support Craft for Indian Navy, Highlighting Indigenous Shipbuilding Capabilities
Kolkata: Titagarh Naval Systems Limited (TNSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), successfully launched its fifth and final Diving Support Craft A24 (YARD 329) for the Indian Navy. The vessel marks the completion of a series of five Diving Support Crafts (DSCs) built under the Government of India's Make in India initiative.The launch ceremony took place on August 1, 2026, and was attended by approximately 200 guests. Mrs. Kamal Singh, wife of Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, AVSM, NM Chief of Personnel, performed the traditional naming and launch of the vessel into the Hooghly River at 1505 Hrs.
These vessels are designed as catamaran-type ships and are equipped with advanced, indigenously sourced systems to support the Indian Navy's Command Clearance Diving Teams (CCDTs). The DSCs will be integral to underwater operations within harbor and near-shore environments, covering inspection, repair, maintenance, and salvage activities.
The launch of DSC A24 (YARD 329) represents a significant milestone for naval shipbuilding in Eastern India. Cmde. Hemant Khatri, Managing Director & CEO of TNSL, stated that the completion of all five DSC launches is a major achievement. He added that as the first private shipyard in West Bengal to build and deliver commissioned vessels for the Indian Navy, the company remains focused on delivering high-quality platforms while preparing for advanced defense shipbuilding programs.
Vice Admiral Gurcharan Singh, AVSM, NM COP of the Indian Navy, highlighted that the launch is a testament to years of planning and teamwork. He noted that with nearly 70% indigenous content, the vessel demonstrates the success of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, underscoring the strong partnership between the Indian Navy and industry.
TNSL’s commitment to maritime excellence extends beyond this project. The company is currently developing a state-of-the-art 50-acre shipyard at Falta, West Bengal, intended to meet both national and international shipbuilding requirements.
Titagarh Naval Systems Limited was formed following the strategic restructuring of TRSL to intensify its focus on maritime growth. TNSL has secured an approximate order book totaling 500 crores (including taxes). The new facility is designed with advanced automation and aligns with Industry 4.0 standards, enabling it to handle ships up to 180 meters in length with an annual capacity of 12-16 vessels.
TRSL itself possesses a proven record in shipbuilding, having delivered more than 35 vessels, including coastal research ships for NIOT, the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and GRSE. This structure allows TRSL to concentrate sharply on its core railway systems business while empowering TNSL to drive expansion in specialized vessel contracts.
