New Delhi, April 7 The telecom department expects that the reassessment of AGR for Vodafone Idea – which recently received government relief for its dues and liabilities – will be completed by June, sources said.
The reassessment was initially targeted for completion by March 31.
Sources said the review of Spectrum Usage Charge (SUC) is underway, following the internal licence fee reassessment by the Controller of Communication Accounts.
Accordingly, the timeline has been extended to June, sources said.
The Union Cabinet has provided relief to Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) based on the Supreme Court order, and has "frozen" its Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues at ₹87,695 crore for a period ranging from FY 2006-07 to FY 2018-19.
The "frozen" dues are subject to reassessment.
This amount excludes the AGR dues from FY 2017-18 and FY 2018-19, which have been finalized by the Supreme Court's 2020 order and are payable accordingly.
In response to a question in the Lok Sabha in early February this year, Minister of State for Communications, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, had said that Vodafone Idea's AGR dues, frozen as of December 31, 2025, would also be subject to reassessment by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in line with the deduction verification guidelines.
A committee constituted by the DoT on January 30, 2026, will decide on the outcome of such reassessment by the telecom department.
"The committee comprises a retired Secretary-level officer of the Government of India and a representative of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), as nominated by the CAG. The committee shall finalize the outcome of the reassessment within a period of two months, unless extended," he had said in the reply, adding that the decision of the committee would be final and binding on both parties, namely the DoT and VIL.
