
₹5,980 Crore Investment to Generate 8,400 Jobs Across Key Sectors
Chennai, February 16: The Tamil Nadu government has signed two major Memoranda of Understanding totaling ₹5,980 crore with Japanese electronics major MinebeaMitsumi and Bengaluru based Aequs Group, reinforcing the state’s push to strengthen its semiconductor and aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.The agreements were signed in the presence of Chief Minister M. K. Stalin at the Secretariat in Chennai on Monday. According to an official release, the projects are expected to create 8,400 employment opportunities across advanced manufacturing segments.
MinebeaMitsumi to Invest ₹1,980 Crore in Tiruvallur Semiconductor Facility
NMB Minebea India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi, has committed ₹1,980 crore to set up a manufacturing and research and development centre in Tiruvallur district.The facility will come up at the Mahindra Origins Industrial Park and will focus on building a complete manufacturing ecosystem for high value semiconductor components. The planned production includes Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors and Integrated Circuits, along with motors and sensors.
The project is expected to generate 1,400 jobs, with more than 40 per cent of the roles earmarked for highly skilled technical personnel, highlighting the emphasis on advanced semiconductor capabilities.
Aequs Group to Establish Aerospace Cluster in Krishnagiri
In a parallel development, Aequs Group has pledged ₹4,000 crore to expand aerospace manufacturing operations at the SIPCOT-Shoolagiri Industrial Park in Krishnagiri district.The company plans to establish a specialised aerospace and defence manufacturing cluster focused on aircraft engines, gearbox components, and precision engineering parts. The initiative is projected to create employment for 7,000 people.
Strengthening Tamil Nadu’s Industrial Ecosystem
The state government said these investments are aligned with its strategy to maintain Tamil Nadu’s position as a leading industrial and economic hub in India, while expanding employment opportunities for youth and women.The event was attended by Industries Minister T. R. B. Rajaa, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, MinebeaMitsumi Director and President Katsuhiko Yoshida, and Aequs Co-founder and Managing Director Rajeev Kaul.
With significant investments in semiconductor and aerospace manufacturing, Tamil Nadu continues to position itself as a key destination for high technology and precision engineering projects in the country.
