Suzlon secures 105 MW order from Sunsure Energy for S175 Wind Turbine
Suzlon Energy Limited has secured its first commercial debut order of 105 MW for the next-generation S175 (5.0 MW) wind turbine from Sunsure Energy, solidifying customer confidence in Suzlon's technology portfolio. This order comes just two weeks after the launch of India's tallest and most powerful wind turbine. The contract involves the supply, erection, commissioning, and maintenance of 21 S175 (5.0 MW) wind turbine generators (WTGs). The project is set to be installed in Bijapur district of Karnataka.
This partnership represents a significant step for both companies. Sunsure Energy has placed its third order with Suzlon within the last 14 months, bringing their cumulative partnership total to 400.8 MW.
Key details regarding the ongoing partnership and project include:
| Metric | Detail |
|---|---|
| Order Value / Capacity | 105 MW |
| WTGs Ordered (S175) | 21 |
| Cumulative Partnership Size | 400.8 MW |
| Project Location | Bijapur, Karnataka |
The S175 turbine is designed with a 175-meter rotor and a 160-meter hybrid lattice tower to access stronger and more stable wind regimes. By enabling higher energy yields and superior project economics, the technology helps convert previously unviable sites into commercially attractive opportunities, thus expanding the addressable market for wind energy.
Management from both Suzlon and Sunsure emphasized the strategic importance of the order. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, stated that it is rewarding to support Sunsure's growth as their partnership deepens. He noted the progression from earlier platforms (2.1 MW and 3 MW) to becoming the launch customer for the next-generation 5 MW S175 turbine.
Manish Mehta, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Sunsure Energy, explained that the order is a precise strategic choice because the S175 is built for firm and dispatchable power. This aligns with Sunsure’s ambition to be a 10 GW platform by 2030, driven by accelerated electrification in India.
Ajay Kapur, CEO of Suzlon Group, commented on the project's significance, stating he is confident it will become a case study in effective energy generation and project economics. The rapid development of this 400.8 MW portfolio over a short span highlights the trust customers place in Suzlon’s technology, execution, and innovation capabilities as India’s commercial and industrial (C&I) renewable market scales.
