Leadership Reshuffle Signals Strategic Reset
Suzlon Group has announced a major strategic repositioning under its new roadmap titled “Suzlon 2.0,” marking its transition from a wind turbine manufacturer to a comprehensive renewable energy solutions provider. As part of this shift, the company has appointed Ajay Kapoor as Chief Executive Officer. Co-Founder and Vice Chairman Girish Tanti said the renewable energy landscape has evolved significantly.
“The market has shifted from a single source, whether it is wind or solar, to firm, dispatchable renewable energy hybrid projects,” Tanti stated, underscoring the company’s intent to align with changing demand dynamics.
India’s Energy Transition at the Core of Growth Plans
India’s ambitious clean energy expansion forms the backbone of Suzlon’s strategy. The country is expected to add around 500 GW of non fossil fuel capacity over the next decade. This includes approximately 300 GW of solar and 100 GW of wind capacity.Suzlon, which has historically focused on wind equipment manufacturing, now aims to capture opportunities across this broader renewable ecosystem. The company plans to offer integrated renewable solutions to customers, positioning itself as a single point provider in a rapidly diversifying market.
Clear Division Between Execution and Strategy
To support its transformation, Suzlon has restructured its leadership framework by separating business execution from long term strategic planning.Ajay Kapoor will oversee business performance and operational execution. Meanwhile, a newly formed Group Executive Council comprising the chairman, Girish Tanti, and JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, will focus on strategic initiatives and future growth opportunities.
Chalasani noted that the company’s priorities are shifting after a phase of recovery. “The last three years for us have been resilience and rebuilding. The next few years are going to be disciplined expansion and institutional skill building,” he said.
Rising Demand for Hybrid Renewable Projects
Suzlon highlighted a change in order patterns, with a growing share of demand now coming from commercial and industrial customers. These clients are increasingly seeking hybrid renewable projects that combine multiple energy sources and prefer engaging with a single integrated supplier. The company’s “Suzlon 2.0” framework is designed to address this shift by expanding capabilities beyond standalone wind projects into hybrid and broader renewable offerings.
Global Expansion and Future Readiness
Suzlon is also evaluating international expansion, partnerships, and potential acquisitions as part of its long term roadmap. However, the management dismissed speculation regarding any equity investment by corporate partners, with Tanti clarifying that no such consideration is underway. The new organizational structure is intended to prepare Suzlon for growth opportunities beyond 2027-28. Alongside scaling its core wind operations, the company aims to develop adjacent renewable businesses to strengthen its position in India’s expanding clean energy sector.
With this strategic reset, Suzlon is positioning itself to participate more fully in India’s renewable transition while adapting to a market increasingly driven by integrated and dispatchable energy solutions.
