Sony India Bets on Premiumization as High-End Demand Spurs Festive Season Revival

Sony India is aggressively pivoting its strategy, banking on consumer demand for premium electronics to drive double-digit value growth in FY26. The company acknowledges a sluggish start marked by global economic uncertainty and rising input costs, but views the festive sales cycle as crucial for market sentiment revival.

The manufacturer expects consumers who remain willing to spend on superior technology will underpin its growth trajectory. Instead of volume being the primary driver, Sony is concentrating on high-value products, believing that premiumization will ultimately outpace unit growth this fiscal year.

Navigating Market Headwinds with a Premium Focus

Sony India closed FY25 with revenue standing at Rs 7,917.54 crore, according to its filings. The company reported returning to double-digit growth in FY25 after a muted performance in the prior year. Nayyar stated that he and his team are expecting continued healthy growth for FY26.

While industry-wide price hikes due to supply constraints and component costs have weighed on overall demand, Sony maintains strong momentum. The company's focus is shifting away from mass-market consumption toward specialized, high-end experiences at home.

Premium Audio Becomes Central Growth Driver

Audio products represent a significantly robust segment for the company. Currently contributing over 20% of Sony India’s business, audio has emerged as "a very serious business." This rapid growth is supported by premium personal audio and home theatre solutions.

Sony recently launched the Bravia Theatre Trio home theatre system to capitalize on this surge in demand. The company's focus is sharpening intensely on high-end products priced above Rs 70,000. The segment of premium audio products exceeding Rs 50,000 is specifically expected to grow by around 38%.

TV and Gaming Fuel Growth Despite Cost Pressures

Sony is witnessing strong traction in the demand for larger-screen televisions across multiple product sizes. Consumers are increasingly upgrading to devices such as 75-inch, 85-inch, and 98-inch screens to enhance viewing experiences for movies, sports, and OTT content.

Beyond TVs, gaming products and personal audio devices are key areas of expected strength. The demand for premium home audio systems is accelerating, driven by consumers seeking immersive, cinema-like experiences in their own homes.

Festive Season Expected to Revive Consumer Sentiment

The company has positioned itself strategically ahead of the crucial festive sales period, beginning around Independence Day and continuing through Diwali. Sony believes this cycle will be instrumental in reviving broader market demand and improving consumer sentiment within India's consumer electronics landscape.

As premiumization continues across the sector, brands like Sony are positioning themselves to convert price sensitivity into value appreciation, ensuring that differentiated products with superior technology secure sustained growth momentum.
