E-Commerce and Quick Commerce Hiring Surge by 35% in Two Years​

New Delhi, March 26 – Hiring in India’s e-commerce and quick commerce sectors has experienced a significant increase, growing by 35 percent over the last two years, according to a new report released on Thursday. Companies are increasingly prioritizing technology and operational execution capabilities.

Hiring Demand Reaches Nearly 100,000 Roles​

The total hiring demand in the sector has risen substantially. Data from CIEL HR indicates approximately 98,750 roles are projected to be filled by 2025, compared to 73,320 in 2023.

Shift Towards Capability Building​

The growth reflects a structural shift in hiring practices. E-commerce companies are moving beyond expansion-focused recruitment to build capabilities in platform resilience, fulfillment precision, and AI-enabled customer experiences.

Technology and Engineering Roles Drive Growth​

Technology and engineering roles have witnessed the most significant expansion, with demand increasing more than three times in the last two years. Key positions in demand include software developers, DevOps engineers, solution architects, and AI and machine learning experts.

Supply Chain and Fulfillment Demand Increases​

Demand in supply chain and fulfillment sectors has risen by 25 percent over the same period. Roles such as warehouse managers, inventory controllers, and city operations leads are becoming increasingly critical, particularly for quick commerce companies as they expand into smaller cities and focus on delivery efficiency.

Premium for Digital Skills​

The report highlights a growing premium for advanced digital skills. Professionals specializing in artificial intelligence and machine learning are earning 30 to 40 percent more than traditional tech roles. Specialists in generative AI and large language models are commanding higher salaries, with experienced professionals in natural language processing and computer vision earning up to Rs 50 lakh annually.

Gig Workforce Expansion​

India’s gig workforce is projected to cross 12 million in 2025 and nearly double to 23.5 million by 2030.

Key Cities for Tech and Engineering​

Bengaluru and Hyderabad remain primary hubs for technology and engineering roles, while Chennai is emerging as a center for product and analytics-related jobs.
