Sigma Advanced Systems Secures USD 104.9 Million Export Order for Next-Generation Artillery Shells
Hyderabad, July 27, 2026: Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has secured a significant export order valued at USD 104.9 million (roughly INR 1,013 Cr.). The contract is with a North American customer and involves the manufacture and supply of 147,000 units of 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies. The order is set for execution within the next 6 to 12 months.
This agreement highlights Sigma’s growing involvement in advanced defense manufacturing. The company supplies these sophisticated projectiles, which are designed to be integrated into extended-range ammunition systems globally. Base bleed shells are distinct from conventional shells because they incorporate a gas-generating unit at the rear of the projectile. This design reduces aerodynamic drag during flight, thereby extending the effective range of the artillery system while maintaining full compatibility with existing 155mm platforms in service worldwide.
Advancing Defence Technology and Capability
Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has been strategically enhancing its technological capabilities to meet global defense requirements. Prior commitments include contracts for M107 artillery shell bodies and 155mm fuzes. The progression toward manufacturing these technologically advanced base bleed shells reflects the company's strategy to move up the value chain within artillery ammunition production, building engineering capabilities required by international customers.
The development of this precision-engineered projectile casing incorporates various complex technologies including aerodynamics, energetics, and propulsion-related systems engineering. These shells are built to withstand in-flight loads and ensure greater lethality through a muzzle exit system designed to reduce base drag and increase range. The projectile is also compatible with programmable electronic fuzes.
Market Significance and Growth Outlook
The export contract solidifies Sigma's position within the global defense manufacturing supply chain, amidst rapidly growing investment in artillery modernization across various regions. This order is anticipated to be margin accretive, contributing to an improvement in the company’s overall profitability.
Beyond its immediate commercial value, the contract strengthens Sigma's credentials as an export-qualified manufacturer in the international artillery ammunition market. It is expected to serve as a reference program supporting the company’s efforts to cultivate relationships with new partners and customers overseas.
Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and Executive Director of Sigma Advanced Systems Limited, stated that the contracts reflect the confidence global customers have placed in Sigma's manufacturing capabilities. He emphasized that defence manufacturing success is built on consistent execution and uncompromising quality, reinforcing the company's ambition to be a long-term partner to leading defense organizations globally.
