India Logistics Sector Gets a Major Automation Upgrade

Shadowfax, an on-demand third-party logistics platform, has operationalised its largest automated sorting facility in the National Capital Region, marking a significant expansion of its infrastructure footprint. The company has invested ₹50 crore in the 2.1 lakh square feet hub, positioning it as a critical node in its express delivery network.

The facility is equipped with a high-speed automated sorter capable of processing 48,000 shipments per hour. With a peak handling capacity of up to 1 million shipments per day, the hub ranks among the highest-capacity sorting centres in the Indian logistics industry.

80 Direct Linehaul Routes to Accelerate Deliveries

The NCR sorting centre supports up to 80 direct linehaul routes that bypass intermediate hubs, streamlining transit across regions. It will function as the central backbone for Shadowfax Prime, the company’s dedicated same-day and next-day delivery vertical.

By eliminating additional handling stages, the facility is designed to accelerate delivery timelines while improving operational precision.

Abhishek Bansal, Chairman, Managing Director, and CEO of Shadowfax, said that network ownership is fundamental to achieving long-term operating leverage in the express logistics business. He added that the OneNCR investment represents a strategic move to build advanced sorting centres that provide competitive advantages in both speed and cost efficiency.

Single-Touch Model to Cut Errors and Transit Time

The newly launched hub operates on a high-efficiency single-touch model. According to the company, nearly 80 percent of shipments will be directly manifested for last-mile delivery at the origin point. This structure is expected to significantly reduce handling errors and transit time while enhancing overall throughput.

With this development, Shadowfax strengthens its automated logistics infrastructure, reinforcing its focus on speed, scalability, and cost optimization in India’s rapidly evolving express delivery segment.
