Indian equity markets posted a noticeable rebound on Friday, April 10, recovering from the sharp losses recorded in the prior session. The recovery was bolstered by positive momentum seen in global indices and robust buying interest, particularly within the financial and cyclical sectors.

At the opening trade, the Nifty gained 134 points. The Sensex mirrored this positive sentiment, climbing 417 points to reach 77,048. Market breadth reflected the buying mood, with 1,727 stocks advancing against only 351 decliners.

Reversing the Momentum After Steep Fall

The current uptick marks a clear reversal following the previous day's downturn. On Thursday, April 9, selling pressure dominated the market. The Sensex shed 931.25 points, while the Nifty declined 222.25 points, ultimately closing at 23,775.10 amid profit booking.

Sectoral Drivers Fueling the Morning Gains

The positive sentiment was notably concentrated in specific sectors. Financial stocks and cyclical names were key beneficiaries of the morning buying wave. This sector-specific strength underpinned the broader index recovery.

Navigating Global Headwinds: Crude and Geopolitics

Despite the domestic bounce, global sentiment remained a balancing act. Investors are closely monitoring escalating geopolitical risks, such as tensions involving Israel and Lebanon.

Support from Asian markets provided a lift, as the Nikkei and Kospi traded higher in their early deals, climbing by 1-2 percent. However, caution persists regarding the sustainability of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire.

Crude Oil Impact Tempering Risk Appetite

A primary source of caution remains the energy front. Crude oil prices edged higher, with Brent crude hovering near $96-97 per barrel.

This rise is attributed to persistent supply concerns stemming from continued disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. The upward trajectory in oil prices keeps inflation concerns active, acting as a tempering factor on overall risk appetite.
