He observed that the initial Q1 earnings reports have been encouraging, particularly driven by PSU banks, oil & gas, and metals stocks.Despite prevailing geopolitical headwinds, the analyst pointed out resilience in mid-cap and small-cap stocks. These segments are being supported by improving business momentum and resilient earning expectations, reinforcing opportunities for selective stock picking.
Global Markets: US Rally Continues; Europe Shows Mixed Activity
Wall Street’s main indexes managed to rise on Monday, led primarily by a recovery in chip stocks. Investors remain focused on the upcoming major technology earnings slate which will include Alphabet, Tesla, Intel, and IBM.The semiconductor sector is under scrutiny, with investors closely watching reports from Intel and Texas Instruments for signs of renewed momentum after a recent pullback. This year's market gains have been significantly bolstered by AI capital spending among hyperscalers.
European markets presented mixed results. Britain’s FTSE 100 fell 0.54% to 10,542.94. In contrast, France’s CAC 40 rose 0.17% to 8,353.37, while Germany’s DAX saw a modest gain of 0.12% reaching 24,861.67.
Technical View: Where Nifty Can Find Support and Target Zones
SBI Securities offered specific guidance regarding the near-term trajectory for Nifty. The brokerage suggested that immediate resistance for Nifty is expected in the 24,370 to 24,400 zone. A sustainable breakthrough above this level could lead to a short-term extension toward 24,550 and then 24,700.On the downside, SBI Securities anticipates that the benchmark index will find immediate support within the 24,130 to 24,100 zone during trading.
Market Activity: Top Movers and Sentiment Indicators
In terms of value turnover, HDFC Bank (₹ 4,376 crore) led the list, followed by ICICI Bank (₹ 3,241 crore), Axis Bank (₹ 3,193 crore), RIL (₹ 1,903 crore), SBI (₹ 1,738 crore), and PNB (₹ 1,317 crore).In terms of volume turnover on NSE, Vodafone Idea accounted for the most shares traded at 32.41 crore, followed by Yes Bank (13.34 crore) and PNB (11.9 crore). Stocks that witnessed strong buying interest included PNB, Torrent Pharma, JSW Energy, and Gabriel India.
While Axis Bank and HDFC Bank were noted for high value activity, they also featured among the stocks showing significant selling pressure. Among those hitting their 52-week highs were Gabriel India, Himadri Speciality, and Shyam Metalics, while Vedanta and Go Digit General Insurance recorded 52-week lows. Sentiment metrics favoured bulls, as 1,779 out of 3,390 stocks witnessed advances.
