SECL Nabs Historic Gazette Notification for Flagship CSR Scheme After Impressive Student Success Rates

Ministry of Coal Certifies 'SECL Ke Sushrut' as First PSU CSR Initiative in Gazette of India

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, has achieved a landmark moment in corporate governance. The company’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, 'SECL Ke Sushrut,' has been officially notified by the Ministry of Coal in the Gazette of India. This makes it the first CSR scheme among all Coal Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) to receive such an official notification.

The notification marks a significant step toward robust governance and transparent benefit delivery within the mining sector. The Ministry of Coal utilized this notification to mandate Aadhaar authentication for beneficiaries under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.

Enhancing Transparency Through Targeted Benefit Delivery

The Gazette Notification is designed to ensure that the benefits provided by SECL are delivered efficiently, transparently, and directly to the intended beneficiaries. The initiative allows for voluntary Aadhaar authentication while also providing alternative government-approved identity documents for individuals who do not wish to use Aadhaar.

This institutional strengthening reaffirms the high standard of accountability maintained by SECL's CSR framework. Previously, 'SECL Ke Sushrut' had been recognized as the first and only CSR scheme of a Coal PSU listed on the Government of India’s Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Portal.

Academic Impact: Success Stories Under 'SECL Ke Sushrut'

Launched in 2023, SECL Ke Sushrut focuses on providing free residential NEET coaching to deserving students residing within SECL's operational regions. The core mission is enabling these talented individuals to pursue professional careers in medicine and allied healthcare fields.

The program has consistently generated exceptional results since its inception. In the inaugural batch (2023-24), 39 out of 40 participating students qualified the NEET examination. These efforts led to multiple admissions across various government institutions, including MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPTH).

Sustained Momentum in Healthcare Education

The positive trajectory of the initiative continued strongly into its second cycle (2024-25). In this batch, 31 out of 40 students successfully qualified NEET. Their achievements include secured admissions into MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) programs in government institutions.

The official Gazette notification strengthens the institutional framework behind these successes, guaranteeing sustained transparency and improved accessibility for all future beneficiaries. Through 'SECL Ke Sushrut,' SECL continues to play a vital role in nurturing the next generation of medical professionals while contributing significantly to the nation's healthcare ecosystem.
