SEBI Triggers Massive Asset Freeze Against Trader in DU Digital Global Probe

Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has initiated stringent recovery proceedings against Vidhi Nikunj Shah, freezing financial assets due to irregularities in trading activities involving DU Digital Technologies Limited (now DU Digital Global Limited). The regulatory action involves the attachment of various accounts across multiple financial institutions. This decisive move underscores SEBI's commitment to enforcing compliance and recovering dues related to market conduct.

Financial Penalties and Total Dues Imposed by SEBI

The recovery proceedings were initiated following a Recovery Certificate No. 9177 of 2026 dated June 29, 2026. The total outstanding amount due from Vidhi Nikunj Shah amounts to ₹5,31,000.00. This sum comprises a significant penalty along with associated interest and recovery costs.

The financial breakdown details the principal penalty of ₹5,00,000.00. This was imposed by the Adjudicating Officer (AO) vide Order No QJA/MN/IVD/ID7/31947 / 2025-26 dated December 31, 2025. Additionally, ₹30,000.00 represents interest calculated at a rate of 1% per month from January 2026 to June 2026. The balance ₹1,000.00 pertains to recovery costs associated with the proceedings.

Bank and Post Office Account Attachments Ordered

In order to ensure realization of the outstanding amount, SEBI has directed banks and post offices nationwide to attach all accounts held by Vidhi Nikunj Shah. This notice was issued in exercise of powers conferred under Section 28A (1) and Section 11(2) (ia) of the SEBI Act, 1992.

The attachment mandates that no debit shall be made in the attached accounts up to the extent of the total dues until further orders are received from the Recovery Officer of SEBI. However, credits into these specified bank and post office accounts may still be allowed.

Freeze on Demat Accounts and Mutual Fund Folios

Parallel to the banking attachment, a separate notice was issued to all mutual funds and central depositories regarding the seizure of securities-related assets. The attachment specifically targets all Demat Accounts and Mutual Fund folios held by the defaulter across various platforms.

This action ensures that the defaulter cannot dispose of securities or related instruments, which could otherwise delay or obstruct the recovery process. Like bank accounts, these folios are subject to restrictions on debits until SEBI provides further instructions.

Compliance Directives for Financial Institutions

The notices issued to banks and post offices include strict compliance directives regarding account management. Banks are required to provide detailed information concerning all accounts and lockers held by Vidhi Nikunj Shah within 15 days of receiving the notice. This includes supplying account statements for the last year.

Financial institutions are also directed to immediately report any new accounts opened by the defaulter post-issuance of this attachment notice. Failure to respond within the prescribed 15-day period will lead to an assumption that the defaulter holds no such bank balance with their institution.
