VA Tech Wabag Secures Mega ₹1,000 Crore+ TTRO Plant Order from Chennai Water Board

Shares of VA Tech Wabag Ltd. were in focus on Thursday, March 12, after the company announced that it had secured a mega order from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) for a tertiary treatment reverse osmosis (TTRO) plant in Kodungaiyur, Chennai.

VA Tech Wabag categorizes projects worth more than ₹1,000 crore as mega orders.

PPP Contract for Kodungaiyur TTRO Plant

According to the company’s regulatory filing, it has received a Letter of Award from CMWSSB under a public private partnership model. The project involves refurbishing, financing, operating, maintaining, and eventually transferring the 45 million litres per day TTRO plant located in Kodungaiyur.

The facility was originally developed by CMWSSB in 2019 along with an associated distribution network. Its purpose is to supply high quality treated wastewater to industries operating in the Manali Ennore and Manali Minjur industrial corridors in Tamil Nadu.

Upgrade and Operations Timeline

Under the terms of the contract, VA Tech Wabag will refurbish and upgrade the existing plant to restore its full treatment capacity of 45 MLD. The company has been given a timeline of 18 months to complete the refurbishment work.

After completing the upgrade, VA Tech Wabag will operate and maintain the facility for a period of 18.5 months.

Existing Presence in Chennai and Other Cities

The company already operates a similar 45 MLD TTRO facility in Koyambedu, Chennai, which it designed, built, and commissioned in 2019.

In addition, it runs a 40 MLD TTRO plant in Ghaziabad that was also developed under a public private partnership model.

S Varadarajan, Whole Time Director and Chief Growth Officer of VA Tech Wabag, said the new project strengthens the company’s position in India’s water sector and reinforces its role in advancing water recycling and reuse initiatives.

He added that such projects play a crucial role in enabling sustainable industrial water management and supporting Chennai’s long term water security.

Stock Performance

Following the announcement, shares of VA Tech Wabag rose 2.6 percent in early trading on Thursday, reaching ₹1,285.1.
