Strategic Appointment Drives Market Rally​

Raymond Ltd witnessed a significant rally on Monday, following the announcement of its expansion into the critical defence and aerospace sector. The company appointed Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, former chief of Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), to lead its burgeoning defence business. This strategic move was met positively by the market, driving shares up nearly 4 percent.

The stock saw a high of Rs 632 per share on the NSE. While it later pared some gains, trading at Rs 623.45 at 12:25 pm, Raymond still showed strong momentum, reflecting an increase of 2.56 percent.

Enhancing Defence Capabilities with Experienced Leadership​

The appointment of Mr Srivastava is aimed at bolstering Raymond's presence in the defence market. The company stated that Srivastava brings nearly four decades of extensive experience from Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL). His previous leadership roles spanned across various aspects of defence technology, organizational development, and programme execution.

In an official exchange filing, Raymond clarified that this appointment represents a concerted effort to expand its operations into high-growth areas of the defence and aerospace domain. Srivastava will be tasked with defining the strategic direction, operational roadmap, and comprehensive growth plans for Raymond's defence division.

Srivastava's Proven Track Record in Defence Tech​

Bhanu Prakash Srivastava possesses a distinguished record within India's defence manufacturing sector. While serving at BEL, he oversaw substantial organizational success, notably increasing the company's market capitalisation from approximately Rs 51,000 crore to Rs 1.5 lakh crore. He also spearheaded securing over Rs 55,000 crore in new orders and was instrumental in launching more than 100 products.

His contributions at BEL included leading significant programmes in naval and sonar systems, radar, missile technology, electronic warfare, and tactical communications. Furthermore, he championed indigenous capabilities and helped establish AI incubation centres within the organization.

Roadmap for Raymond's Defence Future​

At Raymond, Srivastava will dedicate his focus to establishing a long-term defence strategy. His role is set to drive the expansion of the company's engineering prowess across several advanced areas. These include defence electronics, software development, systems integration, and related aerospace and automotive technologies.

He highlighted that India’s defence sector is transitioning into a new phase characterized by self-reliance and significant growth opportunities, making it ideal for companies with robust engineering capabilities like Raymond.

Srivastava expressed his commitment to Raymond's growth journey, noting the substantial opportunities arising from India's concentrated focus on indigenous defence manufacturing. He stated that the company aims to transition into building technology-led solutions.

His vision for Raymond is clear: to develop strategic partnerships and establish a globally competitive defence business. Mr Srivastava, who holds a mechanical engineering degree from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, has accumulated 39 years of experience in operations, R&D, marketing, naval systems, and strategic programme execution across the defence manufacturing industry in India.
