Panasonic Energy India's Financial Audit Qualified Over Battery Waste Management Rules Non-Compliance

The standalone financial results for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, of Panasonic Energy India Company Ltd. have been subject to a qualified opinion from its statutory auditors regarding compliance with environmental regulations. The qualification stems from the company's inability to comply with the provisions of the Battery Waste Management Rules (BWMR), 2022.

BSR and Co., the Statutory Auditors, issued a modified opinion on the audited results for the year ending March 31, 2026. This situation arose after the Board of Directors reviewed and approved the Standalone Audited Financial Results.

The qualification is linked to the company's non-compliance with the BWMR. The firm, through industry associations, has submitted representations to the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, highlighting compliance challenges and requesting revisions to the prescribed Rules, including adjustments to targets and timelines.

A key aspect of the qualification is that while the Central Pollution Control Board notified rates for environmental compensation for non-fulfillment under these rules, neither the company nor the auditors were able to estimate or recognize a provision for this obligation, as pending clarification from the Government exists. Furthermore, management noted significant uncertainty regarding the compliance costs due to ongoing legal proceedings challenging aspects of the BWMR before the Delhi High Court.

The audited figures for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, are detailed below:
