Noida International Airport to Boost Connectivity, Ease Delhi Airport Congestion: PM Modi​

New Delhi, March 27 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the upcoming Noida International Airportwill significantly boost commerce, connectivity, and reduce congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).

Major Aviation Boost for Delhi-NCR​

Ahead of its inauguration on March 28, the Prime Minister highlighted that the airport will serve as a key international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR) and complement existing aviation infrastructure.

“Tomorrow, March 28, is a day of immense importance for Uttar Pradesh and NCR. The first phase of the Noida International Airport will be inaugurated. This will boost commerce and connectivity and ease congestion at IGI Airport,” Modi said.

One of India’s Largest Greenfield Airport Projects​

The Noida airport is among India’s largest greenfield airport projects, developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with an investment of ₹11,200 crore.

It is designed to function alongside Delhi’s IGI Airport, forming an integrated aviation system to handle rising passenger demand and position Delhi-NCR as a global aviation hub.

Passenger Capacity and Infrastructure​

  • Initial capacity: 12 million passengers per annum
  • Future expansion: Up to 70 million passengers annually
  • Runway: 3,900 meters, capable of handling wide-body aircraft
  • Operations: Equipped with Instrument Landing System and advanced airfield lighting for all-weather, 24/7 operations

Robust Cargo and Logistics Ecosystem​

The airport will feature a multi-modal cargo hub, including:
  • Integrated cargo terminal and logistics zones
  • Initial capacity of 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually
  • Expandable up to 18 lakh metric tonnes
  • Dedicated 40-acre MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility
This is expected to significantly strengthen India’s logistics and cargo sector.

Focus on Sustainability and Future Readiness​

Designed as a sustainable infrastructure project, the Noida International Airport aims to operate as a net-zero emissions facility, incorporating energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible practices.

The launch marks a major step in expanding India’s aviation capacity, improving regional connectivity, and enhancing the country’s position in global air travel and logistics networks.
