NLC India Limited Commences Coal Production at Pachwara South Block​

NLC India Limited announced the commencement of coal production at the Pachwara South Open Cast Project on March 29, 2026. The project, located in Dumka District, Jharkhand, was initially allotted to the company by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, on October 3, 2016.

The Pachwara South Coal Block holds an extractable coal reserve of 264.84 million tonnes. It has a normative mining capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum and an average coal grade of G10. Overburden removal began on December 19, 2025, paving the way for the start of production.

The coal block is utilized by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited and U.P. Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, which holds a 51:49 equity shareholding respectively. NUPPL is developing a 3 x 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant at Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh, and the coal from the Pachwara South block will fuel this power plant.
