
NLC India Limited and NALCO Sign Joint Venture for 1,080 MW Captive Thermal Power Project in Odisha
NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) signed a Joint Venture Agreement on July 8, 2026, in New Delhi. The agreement pertains to the development of a Coal-based Captive Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 4 x 270 MW, totaling 1,080 MW, located in Angul, Odisha.NLCIL, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Coal, and NALCO, also a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Mines, formalized the partnership for this significant energy project.
The signing ceremony was attended by Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon'ble Union Minister for Coal and Mines. Senior officials present included Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Coal and Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge) of NLC India Limited; Brijendra Pratap Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of NALCO; Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Finance Director of NLC India Limited; Abhaya Kumar Beuria, Finance Director of NALCO; Jagdish Arora, Projects & Technical Director of NALCO; and Vivek Kumar Bajpai, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Mines.
The newly formed Joint Venture Company will be jointly promoted by NLC India Limited and NALCO, each holding an equal equity participation of 50:50. The venture's core function is to develop, finance, construct, own, and operate the 1,080 MW captive thermal power plant, ensuring a reliable long-term power supply crucial for supporting the expansion project.
This joint initiative represents a major step in strengthening cooperation between two leading Central Public Sector Enterprises. It underscores the Government of India's commitment to integrated resource development, energy security, and promoting sustainable industrial growth.
