Allegations of Brutality and Harassment​

The reported incident occurred in Deoria district, Uttar Pradesh, involving alleged exploitation and physical abuse. According to the media report dated June 2nd, 2026, the girl was paraded through the village after being accused by the shopkeeper.

Following this public humiliation, the victim was allegedly dragged to the shopkeeper's residence. She was then tied to a tree and subjected to brutal assault by the shopkeeper.

NHRC Orders District Authorities to Account for Abuse​

Observing that the contents of the news report point to a serious human rights violation, the NHRC has intervened directly. The Commission issued formal notices to both the District Magistrate (DM) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Deoria district.
