
Ms. Nigar Fatima Husain Appointed as Part-time Official Director on BHEL Board
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), a Government of India Undertaking, announced a change in its board composition, naming Ms. Nigar Fatima Husain as its new Part-time Official (Government Nominee) Director. The appointment is effective from April 27, 2026.Ms. Nigar Fatima Husain, who holds the designation of Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, is taking over the directorship from Shri Asit Gopal, who was the Special Secretary & Financial Adviser, and has consequently ceased to be a Director on BHEL's Board.
The board inducted Ms. Nigar Fatima Husain, an officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service (1996 batch). Her professional background includes significant experience across various government departments.
Ms. Husain's educational credentials include a B. Sc (Hons.) in Zoology from Kolkata University, an LLB from Delhi University, and a Post-Graduation in Sociology from Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (M.P.).
Her extensive career includes serving as the Chief Executive Officer for Roorkee, Jhansi, Deolali, and Mhow Cantonments. She also held positions as Deputy Director General, Defence Estates, where she managed Vigilance matters for the Department. Furthermore, as Addl. Director General, Defence Estates, she was responsible for land matters concerning the entire Defence land in the country. Her experience also includes serving as Director in the Department of School Education and Literacy and as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India.
