
Money Markets Absorb Nearly ₹74,000 Cr as RBI Sustains Tight Liquidity Management
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released comprehensive operational data for the money markets on July 8, 2026. The report highlights significant liquidity absorption across the financial sector, indicating the central bank's focused efforts in stabilizing market conditions and managing overall systemic liquidity flow.Money Market Operations Reflect Tightening Trend
The overnight money markets saw a total volume of ₹6,59,022.07 crore. This segment was heavily dominated by Triparty Repo operations, which accounted for ₹4,50,275.35 crore at a weighted average rate of 5.20%.In the Term Segment, volumes were also registered across various instruments. The Market Repo operation was recorded at 200.00 crore with a stable interest rate of 5.50%. This structure points to active management of short-term funding and risk mitigation in the financial markets.
RBI Operations Drive Significant Liquidity Absorption
The operational data reveals that the central bank's interventions led to substantial net liquidity absorption from the system. For today’s operations, the Net liquidity absorbed was noted at -98,865.00 ₹ crore. This figure reflects targeted actions by the RBI across different financial instruments.Regarding standing facilities, the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) Delta (#) stood at 99,812.00 ₹ crore, operating at a rate of 5.00%. Meanwhile, the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) transactions recorded an amount of 282.00 ₹ crore with a cut-off rate of 5.50%.
Net Liquidity Status and Bank Reserves
Overall, the report showed that the net liquidity injected (including both today’s operations and outstanding liabilities) was absorbed at -74,181.18 ₹ crore. This aggregated absorption figure underscores the RBI's measured approach to drawing down excess liquidity from financial institutions.On a balance sheet note, Scheduled Commercial Banks held cash reserves with the RBI amounting to 7,74,028.15. The Government of India Surplus Cash Balance reckoned for auction as on July 08, 2026, was recorded at 665.00 ₹ crore.
The comprehensive data also confirmed the net durable liquidity position at 4,82,130.00, providing a clear metric of the structural resilience and stability within the short-term money markets as of June 15, 2026.
