
Money Market Dynamics Revealed: RBI Operations Show Significant Liquidity Absorption as Rates Hover near 5% Mark
Overnight Money Markets See Active Trading and Rate Stabilization
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released comprehensive data regarding money market operations as on July 01, 2026. The overnight segment demonstrated high activity across various instruments, with a total volume recorded at ₹ 7,02,044.22 Crore.In the call money segment, the volume stood at ₹ 21,115.55 Crore, reflecting lending between banks. This segment maintained a weighted average rate of 5.28%, which falls within its established range of 4.20% to 5.40%.
The Triparty Repo segment accounted for a substantial portion of the market volume at ₹ 5,07,156.80 Crore. This instrument recorded a weighted average rate of 5.22%, maintaining stability within its 5.00% to 5.34% band. Market Repo trading totaled ₹ 1,67,820.87 Crore, achieving a weighted average rate of 5.23%.
RBI Operations and Net Liquidity Status
The RBI's operations concerning the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF), Marginal Standing Facility (MSF), and Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) were recorded for July 01, 2026. The operation conducted on Wednesday, 01/07/2026 under Fixed Rate yielded a volume of ₹ 29,695.00 Crore at a rate of 5.26%.The MSF facility, also operational on the same date, recorded an amount of ₹ 78.00 Crore against a cut-off rate of 5.50%. The Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) saw an outstanding operation volume of ₹ 1,27,600.00 Crore at 5.00%.
In total, the net liquidity injected from today's operations was recorded as an absorption of -97,827.00 ₹ Crore. This figure reflects a significant draw of funds into RBI through these short-term facilities.
Liquidity Management and Reserve Positions
The Standing Liquidity Facility (SLF) availed by market participants totaled 11,358.82 ₹ Crore. The aggregated net liquidity injected, considering both today's operations and outstanding commitments, stood at -86,468.18 ₹ Crore for the day.Regarding cash reserves, Scheduled Commercial Banks held a total of 8,77,701.88 ₹ Crore with the RBI as on July 01, 2026. This figure is compared against the average daily cash reserve requirement for the fortnight ending July 15, 2026, which stood at 7,98,115.00 ₹ Crore.
Furthermore, the Government of India recorded a surplus cash balance amounting to 29,695.00 ₹ Crore as of July 01, 2026. Net durable liquidity, calculated as of June 15, 2026, was reported at a healthy surplus of 4,82,130.00 ₹ Crore.
