
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Friday approved 22 new proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), marking a significant expansion in India’s electronics manufacturing push. The approvals involve a projected investment of ₹41,863 crore and an estimated production output of ₹2,58,152 crore.
Major Companies Among Approved Applicants
The latest set of approvals includes proposals from leading industry players such as Dixon Technologies, Samsung Display Noida Pvt Ltd, Foxconn through its Indian arm Yuzhan Technology India Pvt Ltd, and Hindalco Industries.These projects are expected to generate 33,791 direct employment opportunities, reinforcing the scheme’s role in job creation alongside manufacturing scale up.
Continuation of Earlier ECMS Approvals
The approvals build on the earlier clearance of 24 applications involving ₹12,704 crore in investment. With the addition of the latest 22 proposals, the ECMS pipeline has expanded substantially in both scale and scope.Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw handed over approval letters to the selected applicants on Friday.
Focus on Cross Sector Electronics Components
According to the background note issued alongside the third tranche of approvals, the projects cover 11 target segment products with applications across multiple sectors including mobile manufacturing, telecom, consumer electronics, strategic electronics, automotive, and IT hardware.Product Categories Covered
Of the 11 approved products:- Five are bare components such as PCBs, capacitors, connectors, enclosures, and lithium ion cells
- Three relate to sub assemblies including camera modules, display modules, and optical transceivers
- Three are supply chain items comprising aluminium extrusion, anode material, and laminate
Projects Spread Across Eight States
The approved manufacturing units will be set up across Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The geographical spread reflects the government’s focus on balanced regional industrial development and wider distribution of electronics manufacturing capabilities.Strengthening Domestic Supply Chains
The Ministry noted that these approvals are aimed at strengthening domestic electronics supply chains, reducing import dependence for critical components, and supporting the growth of high value manufacturing within the country.
