Strengthening India’s Government Cloud Infrastructure

New Delhi, February 17: Amazon Web Services India Pvt Ltd and Yotta Data Services will collaborate to deploy a hybrid cloud infrastructure for the National Informatics Centre’s Meghraj 2.0 initiative, reinforcing the digital backbone of government services across the country.

The GI Cloud initiative, branded as MeghRaj, is designed to leverage cloud computing to accelerate the delivery of e services nationwide. Meghraj 2.0 represents the next phase of this effort, focused on enhancing scalability, resilience, and security for citizen facing applications.

AWS Outposts to Power Hybrid Cloud Deployment

AWS India said it will work with Yotta Data Services to deploy AWS Outposts as part of the Meghraj 2.0 initiative. The deployment is aimed at enabling government departments to use AWS services, including generative AI capabilities, while meeting data residency and security requirements.

AWS Outposts allow customers with sensitive workloads, particularly those restricted to National Informatics Centre data centers, to access advanced AWS cloud capabilities within on premises environments.

According to the company, applications running in NIC data centers will be able to leverage the AWS Region in India during periods of peak demand for citizen facing services.

Elastic Scaling for Citizen Services

During high demand periods, applications can expand to the AWS Region in India for use cases such as data ingestion. Data will synchronize back to NIC data centers within hours, enabling elastic scaling beyond on premises capacity constraints.

This hybrid architecture is designed to ensure that critical government services remain responsive even during usage surges, while maintaining strict compliance with data residency norms.

AWS India undertakes the resale and marketing of AWS Cloud services in India, while Yotta Data Services operates as a cloud infrastructure and platform services provider.

The collaboration marks a step forward in strengthening the government’s digital infrastructure under the Meghraj 2.0 framework, with a focus on scalability, security, and advanced cloud capabilities.
