Marketplace and Seller Growth Highlights
The growth in NMV was attributed to sustained new user onboarding and increased engagement from existing users. The marketplace continued to improve its underlying unit economics.A significant highlight was the expansion of the seller base, which grew 81% YoY to reach 1.04 million sellers. This growth included targeted acquisition of MSME sellers. Improvements in operational health were noted through lower Cancellations and Return-to-Origin (RTO) rates, driven by enhancements to the 'TrustMesh' algorithms.
Expanding Offerings Across Segments
The company reported solid progress across its specialized verticals:- Meesho Mall: The branded marketplace grew NMV approximately 93% YoY in Q1 FY27, mirroring an 88% increase in transacting consumers. Meesho Mall is currently home to over ~1,200 brands, focusing on national brands spanning beauty, personal care, baby care, health and wellness, grocery, and fashion.
- Content Commerce: NMV for Content Commerce grew 141% YoY in Q1 FY2027, with active order-generating content pieces increasing by 143% YoY to 1.7 million. The company noted that its AI-enabled creator toolkit assists creators in producing high-quality and revenue generating content.
Financial Performance and Investment Focus
Contribution Margin for the marketplace expanded to 4.6% of NMV in Q1 FY27, up from 4.0%. This improvement was supported by continued logistics cost efficiencies and better platform monetization. For the marketplace segment, Q1FY27 Revenue from Operations came in at ₹3,707 crores, a 48% increase YoY.However, the company also noted investment costs. Server and Software costs rose to 1.9% in Q1FY27, driven by continuous investment in AI infrastructure, including deep learning models and LLM/agentic platforms. The firm reported that Growth Spends (Advertisement and Sales Promotion) reduced marginally to 2.1% of NMV compared to 2.2% in Q1FY26, maintaining the investment approach toward new user acquisition.
Technology and Entrepreneur Empowerment
Meesho continues its commitment to AI-led productivity. An internal initiative called AI Blitz was launched to embed AI agents into engineering workflows. This has reportedly resulted in more than 2x productivity gains across the engineering organization by systematically shifting code authorship, testing, and documentation to AI agents.The platform also focused on empowering entrepreneurs outside of major urban centers. The seller base growth was particularly pronounced beyond India's largest cities, with Tier 4 sellers growing 125% YoY. Furthermore, Meesho expanded its reach into the retail segment through the acquisition of Kirana Club, targeting a market connecting FMCG brands and distributors with retailers across Tier 2+ and rural India.
Outlook for Q2 FY27
Looking ahead to Q2 FY27, the company expects growth spends to trend higher, as they prepare for the festive season. The leadership team stated that Q1 was a seasonally soft quarter, and marketing spend was accordingly held lower at ~2.1% of NMV.
