Lloyds Metals and Energy Reports Best-Ever Q1 Operational Performance, Highlights Significant Gains in Iron Ore and DRI Production

Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL) has released its provisional operational update for the first quarter of Fiscal Year 2027 (Q1FY27), reporting strong performance across all key segments. The company achieved historically high production levels for iron ore and direct reduced iron (DRI).

The Q1FY27 results show a commitment to consistent growth, driven by operational efficiencies and capacity utilization across LMEL’s integrated mining operations. Key performance indicators include a 53% year-on-year rise in iron ore output and a substantial increase in DRI production.

Production Snapshot

LMEL recorded several high points during the quarter. Iron ore production reached an all-time high of 6.05 million tonnes (MNT), which is 53% higher than the previous year. DRI production stood at 182,460 tonnes, marking a growth of 131%. Pellet production reached 1.7 MNT. Furthermore, the company reported copper production totaling 2,754 tonnes in Q1FY27.

The provisional breakdown of production figures for Q1FY27 and FY26 is detailed below:

ProductionQ1FY27FY26

Operational Highlights by Segment

Iron Ore and DRI Performance
The company’s iron ore output for Q1FY27 was 6.05 MNT, reflecting a 53% growth year-on-year. LMEL plans to produce 26 MT of iron ore in FY27. The mined ore volume excludes the 5.9 million tonnes of BHQ (Banded Hematite Quartzite) which will be processed following the commissioning of beneficiation plants.

In Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), production during Q1FY27 reached 182k tonnes, significantly up from 79k tonnes in Q1FY26, registering a growth rate of 131%. This improvement is attributed to the successful commissioning and full operation of two new kilns.

Pellet and Copper Operations
LMEL commenced operations at its 4 MNT pellet plant recently, aiming to ramp up annual capacity to 8 MNT. For Q1FY27, pellet production stood at 1.7 MNT. The company's entry into the market, supported by both plants running efficiently, has been positively received by both international and local markets. Furthermore, Plant 1 is currently operating at full capacity, having produced 4 MNT over a full year of operations in one instance.

In copper production, LMEL achieved its first output from Surya mines in March-26, resulting in Q1FY27 production standing at 2,754 tonnes. This milestone makes the company India's first to have mine-to-market capabilities in copper, which includes residual production from the Chemaf plant.

Company Scope and Integration

LMEL is an integrated metal and mining company, serving as one of the largest merchant iron ore miners in Maharashtra, incorporated in 1977. The company operates a major single-location iron ore mine at Surjagarh, Gadchiroli district, and possesses an expanded Environmental Clearance (EC) capacity of 55 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), which includes BHQ beneficiation.

LMEL also has manufacturing capabilities for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) up to 700,000 TPA across two locations in Maharashtra. Operational strength is further enhanced by a commissioned 85 km slurry pipeline running from Hedri to Konsari, alongside the scaled-up pellet-making capacity of 8 MTPA at Konsari.

Extending its value chain footprint, LMEL has forayed into copper through strategic investments in mining assets within the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), solidifying its long-term resource security and growth ambitions across base metals.
