Leela Unveils The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary: A New Expression of True Indian Luxury

Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, India's leading pure-play luxury hospitality brand, has unveiled its newly reimagined property in Coorg as The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary. This new identity positions the retreat as a destination deeply rooted in the spirit of the Western Ghats, blending ancient forest settings with transformative wellbeing and authentic Indian hospitality.

The sanctuary is situated amidst 76 acres of pristine natural landscape, featuring ancient forests and coffee plantations. Reflecting The Leela’s commitment to place-based experiences, the property was designed in harmony with its environment, drawing inspiration from Kodava heritage and estate living. It holds IGBC Platinum certification.

The retreat offers guests a holistic escape from modern life. Accommodation consists of 71 spacious villas, including duplex, family, and private pool options. The signature residence is the four-bedroom Sunbeam Presidential Villa, which overlooks the surrounding forest.

Guests are invited to engage in immersive activities that connect them with the local environment. These include guided forest walks, plantation trails, birdwatching, waterfall explorations, cycling routes, and stargazing, celebrating the region's biodiversity and slow rhythms. The property also features a tranquil seven-acre lake and a private helipad for seamless arrivals.

Dining experiences are curated to reflect the destination’s essence. Luma offers lakefront dining focused on seasonal ingredients, while Zen provides refined Pan-Asian cuisine. The commitment to Coorg's rich coffee culture is highlighted through 92 Degrees, where guests can explore the heritage at The Cellar and experience a signature Estate to Brew journey.

Wellness is central to the guest stay through Aujasya by The Leela. This brand philosophy, inspired by India’s traditional practices, is provided within a 27,000-square-foot wellness centre. The facilities include outdoor treatment spaces and a Vinyasa Yoga Deck overlooking the lake.

Anuraag Bhatnagar, Chief Executive Officer of The Leela Palaces, stated that the unveiling represented an important milestone in creating destinations rooted in their surroundings. He emphasized that The Leela Coorg Forest Sanctuary reflects the brand's belief that the most memorable luxury experiences celebrate the unique character of a destination rather than existing simply within it.

The Leela continues its commitment to crafting extraordinary destinations across India’s diverse landscapes. With 24 hotels currently operating and projects in pipeline, The Leela Palaces maintains a portfolio of 15 awardwinning resorts. Internationally recognized for its distinctive architecture and guest experiences, The Leela was ranked the #2 Hotel Brand in the World by Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards 2026, following prior global rankings.
