Kalyan Jewellers Reports Robust Q2 Earnings, Citing Wedding Demand Resilience Despite Geopolitical Tensions

Thrissur-headquartered jewellery giant Kalyan Jewellers has reported strong growth in its consolidated earnings for the June quarter, driven primarily by resilient demand from wedding and festive seasons. The company stated that gold consumption remains robust, successfully offsetting price volatility triggered by ongoing tensions in West Asia.

Ramesh Kalyanaraman, executive director of the chain, assured investors during an analyst call that consumer purchasing power remains strong. He noted that while consumers typically pause purchases amid severe gold price fluctuations, wedding demand ensures a steady stream of customers returning once prices stabilize.

##Consolidated Financial Performance Surges Amid Demand Strength

Kalyan Jewellers recorded consolidated revenue of Rs 10,588 crore for the quarter, marking a substantial 46 percent increase year-on-year from Rs 7,268 crore. Net profit also saw significant growth, rising 32 percent to Rs 348 crore compared to Rs 264 crore in the previous year.

The India business segment showed particularly strong momentum, reporting a 38 percent increase in revenue, reaching Rs 8,503 crore. The net profit for the Indian market grew 25 percent to Rs 321 crore during the quarter.

##Operational Expansion and Sustainable Growth Drivers

To support its expanding consumer base, Kalyan Jewellers added 12 new showrooms across the country. This expansion brings its total India network to 354 dedicated Kalyan showrooms and 129 Candere outlets.

The company's commitment to sustainable sourcing is evident in their operations. The share of recycled gold in total sales increased significantly, rising to 46 percent during June from 30 percent in the preceding quarter. This reflects an increasing reliance on the cash-for-gold program aimed at reducing dependence on imported gold.

##Profitability Under Pressure and Future Outlook

Despite impressive revenue growth, margins were noted to be under pressure this quarter. Management cited increased operational costs, specifically high old-gold exchange volumes and a 54 percent rise in standalone employee costs. Furthermore, promotional offers following customs duty changes also impacted profitability.

The retailer reported a one-time gain of Rs 41 crore during the quarter, which was attributed to the recent 9 percent increase in import duty. Kalyanaraman remained optimistic about the coming periods, stating that management is "upbeat about the upcoming festival and wedding season" and has geared up with fresh collections and campaigns.

##Debt Management and Financial Stability Goals

Kalyan Jewellers also provided a timeline for its financial stabilization efforts. The company aims to become debt-free by September. This goal focuses on repaying outstanding non-gold metal loan (non-GML) debt, which stands at Rs 318 crore.
