ixigo and ConfirmTkt Partner with Swiggy for On-Train Food Delivery Service
ixigo Trains and ConfirmTkt, which operate as India's leading AI-based train ticketing platforms, have established a partnership with Swiggy, India's on-demand convenience platform. This collaboration introduces a 'Food on Train' service, integrating Swiggy's extensive restaurant network into the ixigo and ConfirmTkt applications.The service aims to address the convenience needs of "on-the-move" travelers by offering a seamless way to order meals directly to the train seats.
Through this integration, travelers can access curated menus and order fresh, hygienic meals from over 40,000 trusted restaurant partners located across more than 160 railway stations in India. The service allows for real-time order tracking and direct delivery to the designated train seats. Furthermore, passengers can place bookings ranging from 4 days in advance up to 30 minutes before the train's arrival. Swiggy is also offering an 'assured delivery or full refund' guarantee for all food on train orders.
Customers utilizing the ixigo or ConfirmTkt app can select the 'Order Food on Train' option on the home page, enter their PNR number, and select the delivery station. From there, they can browse a wide array of Swiggy restaurant partners, complete payment, and track the order live.
Sripad Vaidya, COO of ixigo Trains & ConfirmTkt, stated that the partnership combines the platform's deep understanding of train travel with Swiggy's strong restaurant network and delivery expertise. This, he noted, will enhance the existing 'Food on Train' feature by offering greater choice, reliability, and transparency in meal delivery.
Deepak Maloo, Vice President of Food Strategy, Customer Experience & New Initiatives at Swiggy, highlighted the scale of the opportunity, noting that India's railways carry over 18 million long-distance, reserved passengers daily. He stated that the collaboration brings Swiggy's trusted restaurant network to the rail journey, covering 160+ stations, ensuring the quality and convenience expected at home follows the traveler on the train, especially during long journeys.
The scope of available options is substantial, enabling travelers to choose from 40,000+ restaurants. The booking flexibility is highlighted by the ability to order from 4 days up to 30 minutes prior to arrival.
Swiggy's recent consumer data indicates a shift toward a curated culinary experience while traveling by train. While Biryani remains popular, there is a noticeable growth in demand for regional specialties such as Vada Pav, Adai, Appam, and Litti Chokha. Additionally, reports show that nearly 14% of the orders are now placed by nontravelers, with family members ordering meals for loved ones on board. The platform also facilitated group feasts, with Swiggy successfully fulfilling single orders containing as many as 45 items.
By unifying ixigo's established rail user base with Swiggy's expansive food delivery ecosystem, the partnership aims to improve variety, service reliability, and the overall digital experience of train travel across India.
