Maharashtra Aims to Become Global Healthcare Hub Under ‘Viksit Maharashtra 2047’ Vision​

Mumbai, March 27 – Maharashtra has the potential to emerge as a global hub for integrated healthcare and recovery, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday, highlighting the sector’s role in driving innovation, investment, and social welfare.

Speaking at the Pulse 2026 Summit, organized by the state’s Medical Education and Drugs Department, the CM emphasized that healthcare will be a key pillar of the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision.

Key Initiatives in Healthcare​

  1. Indian Institute of Public Health in Nagpur
    • To focus on public health leadership, research, epidemiology, and health systems strengthening.
    • Will support evidence-based policymaking and resilient public health systems.
  2. Medical Education Expansion
    • Maharashtra currently supports 17,000+ medical seats across undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-speciality courses.
    • 1,600 essentiality certificates issued this year, leading to over 1,000 new PG seats.
    • By 2030, state aims to increase medical seats to 7,200 (from 4,850) and PG seats to 4,700 (from 2,119).
  3. Infrastructure and Technology
    • Investments in domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
    • Strengthening district hospitals and tertiary care centers with a focus on quality.
    • Expansion of medical colleges in rural and tribal districts.
  4. Research and Innovation
    • Pulse 2026 provides a platform for clinical research, industry-academia collaboration, and global partnerships.
    • Focus on building future-ready healthcare systems through innovation and capacity building.

Government Commitment​

  • Strengthening public health institutions to guide policy, prevention, and preparedness.
  • Ensuring accessible, affordable, and high-quality care for all citizens.
  • Aligning state efforts with the Union government’s goal of adding 75,000 medical seats over the next five years.
Hasan Mushrif, Maharashtra Minister for Medical Education, highlighted the state’s roadmap for a future-ready healthcare ecosystem, integrating technology, medical education, and robust infrastructure to achieve global standards.

Maharashtra’s push in healthcare under the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 initiative aims to make the state a global leader in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.
