India’s Strategic Response to Protect Citizens

The Modi Government faced a critical choice: to mirror the price increases seen in other nations or to absorb the financial impact to shield Indian citizens from international volatility. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, in line with the government’s commitment since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began four years ago, opted to bear the brunt of the financial impact. The government has implemented measures to reduce the impact on consumers. Significant taxation revenues have been reduced, leading to substantial losses for oil companies – approximately 24 Rupees per litre for petrol and 30 Rupees per litre for diesel. Furthermore, an export tax has been levied on petrol and diesel exports to international markets, reflecting the dramatic rise in global prices. India’s Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, a former diplomat and author, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Ji for this “very timely, bold, and visionary decision.”
