Institutional Frenzy: 27 Investors Pile Into Meesho in Massive Block Deal, Driving Up Stakes​

E-commerce platform Meesho saw significant institutional interest on Tuesday as a block deal unfolded. Twenty-seven major investors collectively acquired a substantial equity stake of company shares from prominent venture capital firms, signalling strong market confidence in the fast-growing tech firm.

Major Investors Acquire Stake from VC Firms​

Elevation Capital and Peak XV Partners Investments were the primary sellers during the open market transactions on August 4. These venture capitalists held significant stakes prior to the deal. Elevation Capital V sold 5.24 crore equity shares for Rs 974.64 crore, having previously maintained a 12.04 percent stake in Meesho.

Peak XV Partners Investments V also participated heavily in the transaction, selling 5.24 crore equity shares at a price of Rs 186 per share, thereby raising another substantial amount for their portfolio through this block deal. Prior to these sales, Peak XV held a 10.06 percent stake as of June 2026's shareholding pattern.

Key Buyers Drive Up Market Interest​

The institutional buyers demonstrated robust commitment during the block trading session. Societe Generale emerged as the largest participant in the Meesho block deals, acquiring 1.12 crore shares worth Rs 208.32 crore. Axis Mutual Fund was noted as the second major buyer, picking up 1.06 crore shares for Rs 198.1 crore.

A vast array of international and domestic financial giants also showed strong participation in the deal structure. The list of notable buyers included Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, UTI Mutual Fund, Morgan Stanley, and Prudential Hong Kong.

Financial Ecosystem’s Strong Rallying Effect​

The institutional capital inflows reflect growing confidence across the financial ecosystem towards Meesho. Other significant investors involved in the acquisition included Kotak Mahindra AMC, HSBC Mutual Fund, Franklin Templeton MF, BNP Paribas Financial Markets, and Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

Various life insurance companies also participated actively as buyers in this concentrated transaction. ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company and Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company were among the entities that bolstered their stake in the e-commerce firm through these block deals. Meesho shares closed at Rs 191.88 on the National Stock Exchange, showing a marginal rise of 0.16 percent following the deal activity.
