India’s Billionaire Count Rises to 308 in 2026, Wealth Surges to ₹112.6 Trillion: Hurun Report​

India Ranks Third Globally in Number of Billionaires​

India now has 308 billionaires, an increase of 24 individuals from last year, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2026 released on Saturday. The rise highlights continued wealth creation and sustained economic momentum in the country.

With this increase, India ranks third globally in the number of billionaires, behind the United States and China.

Combined Wealth of Indian Billionaires Jumps 10%​

The total wealth held by Indian billionaires rose 10 percent year on year to ₹112.6 trillion, reflecting strong growth across multiple sectors.

Out of the 308 billionaires:

  • 199 individuals saw their fortunes increase
  • 109 billionaires experienced a decline or no change in their net worth
Women account for 7 percent of India’s billionaire population, the report noted.

Healthcare Sector Leads New Billionaire Creation​

The Hurun report shows that India's billionaire class is expanding beyond traditional industries as economic growth spreads across a wider range of sectors.

Among industries producing new billionaires:

  • Healthcare led with 53 new entrants
  • Industrial products followed with 36
  • Consumer goods added 31 new billionaires

Energy Sector Holds Largest Share of Wealth​

Although the sector produced fewer new entrants, energy commanded the largest share of billionaire wealth in India.

The sector generated ₹18.3 trillion in wealth from just eight billionaires, accounting for around 16 percent of India’s total billionaire wealth, according to the report.

Mumbai Remains India’s Billionaire Capital​

Mumbai continued to lead as India’s top billionaire hub with 95 billionaires. The city also added 15 new billionaires, exceeding additions in other major global cities such as:

  • New York City: 14 new billionaires
  • London: 9 new billionaires
However, Mumbai lost its position as Asia’s billionaire capital to Shenzhen, which now hosts 133 billionaires.

Global Ranking of Billionaire Cities​

On the global stage, New York topped the list of billionaire cities with 146 billionaires. Other leading cities include:

  • Shanghai: 120
  • Beijing: 107
  • London: 102

Indian Billionaires Older Than Global Average​

The report also highlighted that India’s billionaires are relatively older, with an average age of 67 years, compared with the global average of 65 years.

Women Billionaires Hold ₹9.8 Trillion in Wealth​

According to the Hurun report, 23 Indian women billionaires together hold a combined wealth of ₹9.8 trillion, reflecting the presence of women among the country’s ultra wealthy population.
