
Indian Market Snaps Losing Streak as Big Gains Surge; PSU Giants And Energy Stocks Shine
The Indian stock market rallied strongly on Monday, successfully ending a five-session streak of declines. Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty registered substantial gains amid improved investor sentiment. This positive movement was fueled by geopolitical de-escalation between Iran and the US, coupled with softer global oil prices. HDFC Bank announced that its board has concluded a detailed internal review concerning its deposit arrangements with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The committee found that the associated employees were responsible for business overreach, rather than any dishonest conduct. Consequently, three top executives received warning letters and a monetary penalty of Rs 1 lakh.Meanwhile, Bank of Baroda reported a data breach affecting sensitive customer information. Reports indicate that various corporate and personal banking details, including Aadhaar numbers, savings account records, and loan data, were compromised. The lender clarified that, based on preliminary findings, the incident is categorized as potential business email compromise and does not anticipate any material impact on its financial performance or operations.
Defense and Power Sector Performance Highlights
Bharat Electronics (BEL), a major defense contractor, reported impressive results for the first quarter of FY27. The company recorded a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,054.53 crore. This figure represents nearly 9% year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to the Rs 969.91 crore profit achieved in the prior year period.However, the PSU company's sequential performance showed a decline, with net profit dropping by nearly 52% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) from the Rs 2,225 crore reported in Q4 FY26. Operational revenue grew around 25% YoY but declined 46% QoQ to Rs 5,546.98 crore for the April-June quarter of FY27.
Tata Power also registered a positive performance in its first quarter of FY27. The company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,176 crore, reflecting nearly 11% YoY growth from the previous year's Rs 1,160 crore. Revenue from operations reached Rs 19,051 crore for the April-June quarter of FY27, marking a 6% YoY rise from Rs 18,035 crore in the corresponding period last year.
PSU and Renewable Energy Sector Outlook
Coal India reported that its consolidated net profit stood at Rs 8,852 crore for Q1 of FY27. This marks less than 1% YoY growth from the Rs 8,797 crore earned in the same period last year. Sequentially, however, the PSU company experienced a decline, with net profit dropping more than 18% QoQ from Rs 10,839 crore reported in Q4 FY26.The revenue from operations for Coal India was Rs 46,255 crore in Q1 FY27. This figure showed an 8% YoY increase from the Rs 42,919 crore recorded in Q1 FY26, though it represented a slight decline compared to the Rs 46,490 crore reported in Q4 FY26.
Adani Energy Solutions initiated a qualified institutional placement (QIP) on Monday. The company intends to raise Rs 3,500 crore as part of the base offer from institutional investors. The floor price for the issue was fixed at Rs 1,698.15 per equity share. Adani Energy informed the stock exchanges that its QIP Committee had approved the issuance and adopted the preliminary placement document, noting that the base offer carries an upsize option.
